Just As The Birds

On my daily walk I noticed a bird nest that had been built on the top of a wreath that hangs on the east side of the shelter. It stands about four inches tall and is packed solid and held secure up under the eaves. Sheltered from the wind and rains but able to soak in the morning sunshine. Birds do know what they are doing. God created them to follow the instinct that was His perfect design.

It was a reminder of His tender care towards His creation and specially towards me and you.

These days are unlike any other any of us have lived through but they are HIS days. God has neither left the throne nor was He caught off guard when a virus began to move upon the planet. He has not walked away from humanity or us, individually. He has not set about a way to punish and panic us. He created this planet, set it into motion and remains at the helm of every bit of it. From the tiny ant moving upon the ground to the birds who gather up twigs and create their nest to the majesty of the oceans, volcanoes and mountains. It’s all for us. It’s all to remind us that He is the one who has created, who sustains and has all-authority.

Now is not the time to panic but a time to pray! In Matthew chapter 6, versus 26-27 the Lord reminds us, “Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? Which of you by worrying can add one more moment to his life?”

Do not believe the wicked and twisted lies of an enemy who wants you to feel as if you are forgotten, almost as a sitting duck just waiting to be snatched and taken down.

If you have down time, use it to meditate on the One who will settle your mind and heart. Take a walk. Look around you. Breathe in. Do you see all the glory of God’s creation? Do you see how He has surrounded you with reminders of His faithfulness and power?

Do not waste the days by worrying – which I once read is a waste of your imagination! Do not lower your head in defeat but bow your head in humility and ask the Lord to reveal Himself to you. Give Him your worries and your discouragement. Tell Him your list of all that is bothering you. He knows it already anyway! Speak to Him as you would your most trusted friend. Cry before Him, weep, do not hold anything back. He is your compassionate Father who desires to still the storm in your soul. You do not have to be in any certain place when you come to Him – He meets you right where you are!

He will be faithful to you. He will be faithful to surround you with His perfect peace. The bird that fashioned the nest that sits upon that wreath, I assure you, did not panic and flit about as if doomsday had approached. Rather, it did what it was simply created to do. The same is for you. You were created to have intimacy with the Father. That includes needing a measure of comfort and security from Him. He is the God of all. He is your hope and your answer. He will not leave you. He will not forsake you. Your worth to Him is invaluable. Greater than all the birds of the air combined is His unsurprising love towards you
